Catching Up With The Courts: The Girls of The Game

The Cherry Lawn Pickleball Courts are home to a vibrant community of Picklers from all skill levels. Whether to find community or discover a new way to get active outdoors, people show up in numbers to the courts. Yet, one collective seems to always dominate the field: Women’s Recreational Pickleball Groups. The court serves as a meeting place for women across generations, allowing them to not only play together, but uplift one another through a mutual love for the game. At Cherry Lawn, the competitive drive is second only to female friendship and a desire to have fun. 

Let’s get to know a few of the players that have shaped women’s Pickleball at the courts. One woman I spoke to was a Junior in high school, who first started playing as a hobby to pass time during quarantine. For her, confidence on the court comes not only from the clothing that makes her feel good about her game, but also from the supportive community that she’s found through her Pickleball journey. She credits her ability to form friendships with women of all ages, ranging from 15-85, as the reason she returns to the court time after time again, eager to continue hearing stories about their lives. 

For another, Pickleball has allowed her to build even stronger friendships both on and off the court. Her and her friends “really root for one another,” and have developed an incredible sense of camaraderie whilst improving alongside one another. For those who play in her group, it is all about feeling good on the court, and finding new ways to channel their strength.

Players come to the court for many reasons, but there’s one thing they all agree on: Pickleball is a fun sport for all. “Everyone has to start somewhere,” said one player—so why not start today?
