Welcome to Wollman: Where the City Comes to Play

In recent years, Pickleball has taken America by storm, quickly becoming the fastest growing sport in the nation. Courts are popping up left and right— in residential neighborhoods, in parks, and even in the Big Apple. For many New Yorkers, the sport has become an integral part of urban life. CityPickle, a massive 14-court installation, has brought Pickleball right into the heart of Central Park. Located at Wollman Rink, the space serves as a social hub for all, calling for camaraderie, community, and a bit of friendly competition.

We recently hosted our first event at Wollman, Pickle in the Park, looking to bring together women from all walks of life through Pickleball. As guests came rolling in– two from Denmark, four from New Zealand— we began to realize Wollman’s influence is not only local; it’s global.

It was electric out on the courts. Players of all ages and skill levels were brought together by the strongest force that there is: Pickleball. First-time picklers rallied alongside seasoned pros and coaches, exchanging high-fives as points were scored, and laughing as shots sailed into cabanas. It didn’t matter if players arrived at Wollman knowing one another, or even knowing where the kitchen is. What happened at Wollman is a certain type of magic— an energy created by good sportsmanship and the encouragement of new friends.

Whether you’re playing at Wollman or your local park, Pickleball has a way of bringing people together— no matter where they’re from or how long they’ve been playing. It’s more than just a game; it's a growing community built on connection and a shared desire to play.
